Matchmaking Form

The concept of online Matchmaking in India is fast gaining popularity with each passing day and so is the astrological awareness among the people on the same. The importance of astrologers and pundits has also increased as people in large numbers today consult them for matchmaking before starting with their wedding plans.

The process of matchmaking involves a Melapak Chart that is included in any Panchang. The chart is drawn up in such a way that the signs and stars of the boy are shown on the horizontal side while that of the girl appear on the vertical side of the chart. For matchmaking, it is seen in the Melapak Chart as to where the exact star (including its charan/quarter) of the boy meets that of the girl. The point where their stars meet shows a number that implies the total number of gunas (characteristics) that matches for the boy and the girl. It is to be noted here that out of 36 gunas, both the boy and girl in question should obtain the maximum possible gunas for their match to be considered a “good match”.

Furthermore, there is another number written on the Melapak Chart in the Panchang, just below the given number of gunas, which denotes the dosha (fault) in matchmaking. Below the chart is given the exact meaning of this number that can be explained by an astrologer or pundit.

Manglik Dosh

It is one of the most important doshas (faults) in matchmaking. However, of late, the effect of Manglik Dosh on marriages in India has been blown out of proportion. This dosha occurs when the position of Mars in an horoscope is seen in the Ist IVth, VIIth, VIIIth or XIIth house. It is then said that the boy/girl suffers from Manglik Dosh and can only be married to a Manglik person in order to weaken the effects of Manglik Dosh on the married life of the couple.

It has been observed that nearly 45% marriage horoscopes in India fall under the Manglik category. This is when out of 12 houses on the Melapak Chart in Panchang, Mars is positioned in one of the 5 houses consequently making the horoscope Manglik. In fact, it has also been noted these days that several pundits/astrologers state the necessity of examining the positioning of Mars from both the Moon and the Venus horoscope too. This worsens the already bad situation.

However, according to some astrologers, the positioning of Mars in the IInd house of the horoscope makes it Manglik. After much deliberation, it can be said that the Manglik Dosh derives its origin from the fact that Mars exerts a natural malignant force on the house it is positioned in; the house that is directly linked to marriage or marital aspects.

For instance, the Ist House on the horoscope implies the nature of the native, the IVth House indicates domestic peace, the VIIth stands for marriage, the VIIIth House is for the life of the wife, the XIIth indicates sexual pleasures and the IInd house is the last one that stands for family.

However, it is not just Mars but other malefics (natural malignant forces) like Saturn, Sun or Rahu too whose positioning in any of the houses can prove equally fatal as that of Mars. This means that even if a horoscope does not have Manglik Dosh, the positioning of Saturn and Rahu itself in the VIIth House, along with the influence of Venus, could be a cause of concern with regard to marriage and marital aspects of the boy/girl.
